Meet Our Team

Dr. Bridget Hier’s program of research aims to understand how children’s academic skills develop and how to best intervene when their skills are not developing adequately. She is particularly interested in using experimental methods to evaluate and advance behavioral models of skill development. Through her applied research, Dr. Hier implements classroom-based interventions to improve children’s abilities to generalize newly learned skills across tasks and academic settings. 

Clinically, Dr. Hier specializes in consulting with schools to provide behavioral and academic services within a multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) framework.  At the individual student level, she has expertise in functional behavioral assessment and behavior intervention planning. 

Dr. Hier is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at SUNY Cortland, where she directs an undergraduate minor in school psychology and teaches courses in school-based assessment and intervention, applied behavior analysis, and research methods. Prior to joining SUNY Cortland, Dr. Hier held tenure-track positions at the University at Buffalo and Syracuse University. She completed her graduate training in school psychology at Syracuse University, and she completed her pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training at the Devereux Center for Effective Schools, where she gained expertise in working with under-resourced schools to improve their school climates and systems-wide behavioral practices.
